Networking 401 For The Network

Networking 401 for the Network-Disabled: Following Up   If you have experienced moments as I described in posts from previous weeks (Networking 101, Networking 201, Networking 301), such as fears of being imposing, too aggressive, not interesting enough, etc., then following up will potentially, if not certainly, trigger more thoughts of the same. Even if you felt as though there was a strong rapport and that the person seemed genuinely interested in connecting again, analysis paralysis can strike and cause procrastination, which may present in full-blown failure to follow up. This stage is where you determine the return on your investment of time, energy, and occasionally money, in your networking endeavors. I’ve been prone to overthinking when needing to follow up, even though I’m consciously aware that the best practice is to follow up the next day while people’s memories are still fresh. If someone you met was wildly popular, I’d wait a couple of days for the eager beavers to filter through. If you find yourself unable to follow up promptly, don’t abandon hope that you’ll be able to generate opportunity because you are late. Like being serendipitously late to an event, sometimes delays can benefit you.   Firstly, if when you first met you mentioned a resource, introduction, or information that you thought would be immediately helpful, deliver it. Then ask the person to schedule a follow-up call or meeting. If you’re not able to deliver, then at least update them. Perhaps a follow-up conversation would help you deliver better. The objective, once you have met someone digitally or in real life, is to allocate more time to get better acquainted. This can look like a lot of things, some of which you may even enjoy!   We are all time-starved. Rather than resorting to an email, where most people I know are over-flooded with incoming communications, see if there is a medium that is already a part of the person’s daily, weekly, or monthly flow â€" someplace they’ll already be, but where their attention isn’t diverted to too many other demands.   WHERE TO FOLLOW UP: In real life If you both mentioned a love of hiking or some other activity, tie that into your next plans. Perhaps there is a group hike you can both attend where you can not only get to know each other better, but can also help each other meet other people.     When one person I was introduced to told me that she couldn’t talk on a Tuesday because she was attending a flower show that I also had considered attending, I suggested we meet there. And we did. And we wound up spending a whole day together appreciating flowers and flower artisans. We were also able to write that flower show off as work expenses, along with the expenses of getting there.   If this person works or lives somewhere near you or somewhere you want to go, you can double leverage your time and schedule other activities or errands, let them know and offer to go when they have time to meet.   On social media Perhaps personal interests didn’t come up. Do a bit of personal research. See what you can discern from social media. If you met someone and only talked business, invite them to connect on LinkedIn, but not Facebook or Instagram (unless their business is on Instagram.) You may not be on Twitter, but I have found that people who tweet regularly tend to divulge personal opinions you may not see them sharing on other social media.   If you think your audience isn’t using Twitter â€" think again. It takes but a minute to check. If they are on Twitter and tweet daily, this is the best way to catch them in the flow of their day.     If you send a LinkedIn invitation to someone, you only have 300 characters. Not everyone is active on LinkedIn. If you see that your contact has only a few connections, little content in their profile, and no recent activity, they may not see your invitation for a while, if at all.   If this is the case, use a backup method.   Phone/Texting How many times do you answer your phone when you don’t know the number calling? Rarely, I’d bet, unless you are a busy salesperson. The art of calling people has really become the art of leaving a message. The rules are simple: don’t be a telemarketer.   Often when I leave a message, I let the other person know that they can respond via text to let me know their availability to speak. I may also let them know that I will follow up with an email or LinkedIn message (if I know they use it daily). This gives them options to respond in a way that is most convenient for them.   Video Conference Though I don’t prefer it because when I don’t have meetings scheduled I like to save time by staying in leisure clothes (okay, pajamas), I accommodate requests to video chat because there is something deeper about looking at someone when you talk. It can be a bit awkward, however, with delays, cameras that don’t line up with your eyesight (so you look like you’re looking elsewhere), and technical difficulties.   It’s still the next best thing to meeting in person, and you don’t have to take time to travel anywhere (just to get camera-ready.) All of the above Ideally, somehow you are tracking all of your networking outreach efforts. (We have a toolkit for that). I suggest trying a variety of social media outlets. You may find success with one method where others have failed.     HOW TO FOLLOW UP: KISS Write or say a sentence that reminds the person how and where you met, and why you decided to follow up, specifically how you think you can help each other.   The logistics of making time to network are challenging for most people. You can make this easy and minimize the time needed to exchange communications just to schedule by sharing a scheduling link. Calend.ly offers free accounts where you can sync with your other calendars and provide people with a link that lets them book right on your schedule. Networking meetings by phone require 20 minutes. You may upgrade your account to also offer happy hour or coffee/lunch meetings that would be longer. You may also give them a choice between the two, but that’s not quite as simple.   Yes, everyone has to eat. You can make that point. We all know, however, that eating takes much longer when you combine it with talking, so you turn a 30-minute lunch easily into a 90-minute lunch. Add value Send an article, information, event registration link, RFP link, LinkedIn profile link, or something else you suspect will be of value based on your brief meeting.   HOW OFTEN/LONG TO FOLLOW UP: 12-call rule I have had sales training that taught me that, statistically, it can take a salesperson 12 calls before securing a sale. Thinking about it, I believe I have worked with vendors who were patiently persistent, special emphasis on the “patiently.” If you have someone who has explicitly expressed an interest in what you offer, give them every chance you can to follow through.   5-touch rule Even for general networking, I would say that five attempts to contact someone are sufficient and that often four falls short. As explained by all of the above methods, don’t make touch-base using the same media every time. Maximize your chances of interrupting someone’s attention by using first what you think they use most often, but where you aren’t competing with many others for their attention. At least one of these methods should be a call.   On the last attempt, just as a courtesy to them and out of consideration of their time, let them know it’s the last attempt. You probably wouldn’t believe how often I have seen this work. In fact, to quote contacts that I have reached out to on the 5th contact, as well as many other clients who I recommended follow through with one last (5th) attempt, the contacts said that they “appreciated the persistence.” Truly â€" people want to help. Everyone’s time and energy is being pulled by different priorities. Making that 5th attempt is a way to acknowledge that someone genuinely wants to connect/help/be helped, but has other priorities which you can empathize with.   MISCELLANEOUS TIPS: Target Company Sponsors and Informants When one of your contacts has inside knowledge or influence to increase your chances of getting an interview (based on need, not necessarily a formal job posting,) do your homework before you take their time. Come up with five to seven questions, each of which your contact can answer in a minute or less. I suggest comparing what you learn about a company, opportunity, and boss with a set list of 25-50 criterions, including some must-haves and some ideal (jackpot) criteria.   Whatever you can’t determine through online research is potentially something you can learn from your contact.   Someone willing to help you by giving you insight may or may not be willing to help you by getting your résumé to the hiring manager. Be direct in your request â€" “Would you be willing to make an introduction to the Director of Technology?” OR “I’ve tried applying already. Would you be willing to send my résumé directly to the hiring manager?” OR “Do you know who the hiring manager is on this?” I recommend you also ask if their company has a referral bonus program and if you can use their name as the person who referred you.   Some may say “no” based their perceived influence, or lack thereof, their lack of relationship, or lack of access to the hiring manager. Some companies have policies that prevent this. It’s not always about their willingness to help. Again, be empathetic here. If they can’t help you by sponsoring you (being the source of your referral into the company or introducing you to the hiring manager), ask them how most of the people who are hired make their way in, NOT the best way to apply. Applying always implies a website these days; that’s the answer you’ll get.   Respect people’s time/schedule If you say you are only asking for XX minutes, make sure that you only take XX minutes. Keep your eye on the time and let them know when you only have a couple of minutes left. If by the end of that time you feel that you have only scratched the surface, suggest that you pick a new time right then and there to continue the conversation, and suggest that you allocate more time next time, and perhaps combine it with a meal or activity.   Tickler The same way I hope you are tracking your outreach activities and contacts, I hope that you have a way to remind yourself to follow up with people every so often. Within the month of your follow up meeting, then every three months is a good best practice, but not always possible. Some people you may not follow up with for another 6 months. Make a note of when their busy season is and try to avoid following up then.     This is the last article in the Networking for the Networking-Disabled series. If you have not read those, click on the following links: Networking 101, Networking 201, Networking 301. I hope that you are inspired and feel better prepared to start expanding your sphere of influence and fulfillment.   It does get more comfortable the more you do it, and you’ll definitely feel more motivated once you have some great outcomes resulting from your efforts. Imagine those outcomes now. What kind of magic do you want networking to make possible in your life? How Hiring Limitations Can Perpetuate the Skills Gap - Spark Hire

How Hiring Limitations Can Perpetuate the Skills Gap - Spark Hire What's in a name? Numerous individuals have pondered this throughout the years, including the versifier himself, who advantageously made this vital expression to remind everybody that on occasion a name gives practically zero importance to what or who it is marking. The equivalent could be said for an organization's sets of responsibilities. Frequently, work titles can be expansive, giving minimal genuine insight regarding the activity, the ordinary assignments the activity requires, or the abilities expected to fill the position. While on occasion an occupation has continued as before in substance year over year, some sets of expectations are made with the information that the position will create and change after some time. Furthermore, occupations regularly change in manners that a worker or their boss couldn't have envisioned and a solitary, wide moniker can't represent this. This implies if recruiting administrators are looking for the correct up-and-comer by considering their past activity titles on their resume, they could be missing a lot of that goes on behind the name of the position. An examination done via CareerBuilder uncovered that around 55 percent of recruiting directors who report experiencing issues filling a vacant position for the most part enlist individuals who have held a situation with a similar title as the post they're right now attempting to fill. The inquiry asks to be posed: what material aptitudes or important encounters would they be able to be disregarding by just representing the activity titles an up-and-comer has recently held? By restricting their inquiry along these lines, it is conceivable that organizations are making their own abilities hole. The quest for the correct applicant is drawn out when a recruiting chief just ganders at past employment titles and doesn't consider the abilities a competitor has which could be similarly as helpful in the vacant position. Yet, it might take some additional preparation to sharpen their aptitudes for the new position, however the abilities are there, present in the competitor, and are being lost due to conventional recruiting propensities. Because of the CareerBuilder study, Matt Ferguson writes in the Harvard Business Review that, For the individuals who wail over the absence of essential aptitudes in their present ability pool, deemphasizing the significance of up-and-comers work titles is a simple method to extend. Ferguson destinations another examination by Economic Modeling Specialists International. The examination calls attention to that many about great competitors with the right aptitudes however an inappropriate employment title can be missed in the recruiting procedure. Along these lines, Ferguson says, a move in center is required. How might you gather increasingly about abilities and less about descriptors from a resume or a meeting? How would you find what aptitudes could be important to fill a situation over what accreditations would supplement it? Questions increasingly lined up with information, aptitudes, and capacity, Ferguson says, are those that selection representatives, employing directors, and HR experts ought to inquire. Have you recruited somebody with changed understanding however the correct abilities for the activity? How could you spot them? Tell us in the remarks underneath. By seeing exploration, patterns, and innovation, it's conceivable to make solid instructed surmises about which occupations will be the most sought after (and the most lucrative) in the following 10 to 20 years. The present undergrads and late secondary school graduates are in a one of a kind situation to exploit these expectations. While cash absolutely isn't everything in a vocation, it is turning into an inexorably significant thought for the present understudies. School is more costly than any other time in recent memory, which means getting a degree today is a greater amount of a speculation than it used to be. Numerous understudies are causing figurings when they to consider which degrees are well on the way to get them occupations, gain them cash, and assist them with reimbursing those sizable school advances. In this scene, it's significant for understudies to realize which occupations are the most secure wagers and what abilities they'll have to contend in those work markets. Underneath, we've utilized U.S. News World Report's rundown of 2018's Best Jobs to make a manual for the fields insightful understudies should think about seeking after. Programming Developer The thinking: At when numerous employments of the past are being supplanted by robots, computerized frameworks, and programming, it bodes well to seek after the activity at the highest point of the natural way of life. That activity right currently is programming engineer, which is positioned at the highest point of the U.S. News World Report rundown of 2018's Best Jobs. Somewhere in the range of 2016 and 2026, the U.S. Authority of Labor Statistics anticipates that this field should develop by in excess of a quarter-million employments. The interest will prompt significant compensations (the middle is simply over $100,000 every year) and very low joblessness rates. The training: Most programming designers have four year certifications in software engineering, programming building, or comparative majors. While a few managers may want to see graduate degrees in these fields, additional tutoring is once in a while vital. Determination: A decent programming engineer can work anyplace nowadays. From finding a new line of work with a startup to working with a significant corporate venture, or in any event, going into business, there are openings in basically every industry and each geographic market you can consider. The compensation isn't awful either, and the instructive time venture is moderately low. Dental specialist The thinking: Dentistry is one of those fields that is continually going to offer sufficient openings for work, essentially on the grounds that the requirement for good dental wellbeing is never going to vanish. Truth be told, the field is developing, prodded by the expanding prominence of corrective dental medicines like teeth brightening and reshaping. The additional interest implies dental specialists appreciate one of the most elevated middle pay rates of any field, barely short of $154,000 every year. The training: obviously, turning into a dental specialist includes a lot of instruction. Understudies must finish a college degree, for the most part in pre-dentistry or a science-related field, however there is no particular prerequisite. At that point comes the Dental Acceptance Test (DAT) and getting into dental school, which is an exceptionally serious procedure. Understudies at that point total four extra long stretches of training at dental school followed by a couple of assessments to get authorized. Determination: Becoming a dental specialist isn't for weak willed. The way to licensure and work is long, costly, and testing. The prize toward the finish of that street, however, is a lucrative employment with bunches of security, adaptability, and work-life balance. The work itself is fulfilling and satisfying with the making of positive, confiding seeing someone among dental specialists and their patients. Doctor Assistant The thinking: Most understudies who seek after medication imagine themselves being doctors, however turning into a doctor colleague may be the better alternative. While the middle compensation of $101,480 every year isn't exactly as engaging as what a doctor makes (middle pay $196,000), there are a couple of significant advantages. Specifically, doctor associates work in practically indistinguishable limits as ordinary doctors, yet they don't require anyplace close as much tutoring. The instruction: Physician collaborators experience a 26-month authorize doctor right hand program after their undergrad training. They should then experience a confirmation test to get licensure before they can begin rehearsing. Contrasted with what doctors must do in any event four years of clinical school followed by residencies, associations, and other claim to fame programs the way to turning into a doctor aide is substantially less extreme. End: If you need the difficulties and compensations of being a doctor yet can't stomach the long instructive responsibility and enormous understudy advances important to arrive, turning into a doctor colleague may be a commendable trade off. Related:Top Entry-Level Jobs for Recent College Grads Medical caretaker Practitioner The thinking: A medical caretaker specialist is unique in relation to a standard enlisted nurture. Experts in this activity are here and there alluded to as Advanced Practice Registered Nurses. They experience more tutoring than RNs, which bears them more self-governance in the work environment. APRNs can play out a ton of indistinguishable assignments from doctors, in any event, giving essential consideration in certain circumstances. The training: As with doctor collaborators, nurture specialists are managed a large number of the expert open doors doctors have, however with less tutoring. All things considered, APRNs do require a four year certification in nursing just as an ace's Nurse Practitioner degree. The graduate degree can take two to four years, trailed by an accreditation procedure to utilize the APRN title. It's a long procedure, yet at the same time marginally shorter than a doctor's since there is no residency. Determination: Nurse professionals have a middle compensation of around $101,000 every year. There is required to be a significant deficiency APRNs (and all human services experts) in the coming a long time as the Baby Boomer age ages. Maybe the most appealing component is that people progressing in the direction of attendant specialist status can take RN employments after student (middle compensation $68,450 every year), and afterward choose if they wish to proceed to the more lucrative vocation way. Orthodontist The thinking: An appropriately adjusted grin is one of the elements that numerous individuals use to characterize excellence. All things considered, that sort of magnificence begins in an orthodontic office, where profoundly prepared experts work to determine issues with slanted teeth, overbites, and underbites. The way toward planning orthodontic treatment techniques is one of a kind for each patient, requiring the utilization of mechanical assemblies like supports and retainers. The outcome is a requesting and incredibly specific occupation, yet one that remunerates its experts liberally. Advantages of this activity incorporate significant compensation ($208,000 every year is the middle), low pressure, unimaginable work-life balance, work adaptability, remunerating associations with patients, and for all intents and purposes nonexistent joblessness levels. The training: If there is a disadvantage to turning into an orthodontist, it's the instruction. Most orthodontists start with an undergrad instruction, keep on dental school, and wrap up with an orthodontic alumni program. The common course of events is four years of undergrad study, four years of dental school, and a few years of graduate work. End: If you are up for over a time of training after secondary school, at that point the significant prizes of turning into an orthodontist merit considering. On the off chance that you are pondering one of these fields, make a point to get your work done in advance. Search for businesses in your favored territory and check whether they require explicit degrees or affirmations. Likewise, take a gander at schools that have broadly acclaimed programs for the strength you wish to seek after. Hydrogen Breakthrough Begins Hydrogen Breakthrough Begins Hydrogen Breakthrough Begins Self-governingly determined vehicles and electric-fueled vehicles parade advancements that are starting to catch the creative mind of the general population. Tesla is the perfect example for electric-controlled vehicles, yet the Chevrolet Volt is picking up. Another innovation is slacking, however it wont leave and its advocates figure it could quickly outperform its adversaries if the following round of examination shakes out. Hydrogen is the other elective fuel, and however it is hazy what the new Trump organization thinks about it, vehicle makers and specialists are pushing forward. Hyundai, Honda, and Toyota effectively offer hydrogen-powered vehicles, however capacity stays an issue. For the present, partners are concentrating on hydrogen foundation concentrated on high-pressure stockpiling or freezing temperatures. In any case, other work is being improved and progressively monetary, conveying hydrogen at lower pressure and higher on-board densities. An Indiana startup conceived from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis is taking a National Science Foundation award to demonstrate a low-pressure strong state conveyance framework. Dwindle Schubert, originator of Green Fortress Engineering Inc. what's more, teacher of electrical and PC designing, says his framework can possibly be problematic by conveying hydrogen at low weights of eight bars or even less. Presently, compacted hydrogen gas is put away at 700 bar, or airs of weight. Schubert, likewise the chief IUPUs Richard G. Lugar Center for Renewable Energy, says the key lies in utilizing less expensive and progressively rich materials. Metal hydrides are the favored impetus in existing low-pressure stockpiling frameworks and have been utilized for quite a while. In any case, they emit a ton of warmth during revive, up to 500 degrees Centigrade. That makes disseminating heat increasingly confused, says Schubert. Schuberts framework will utilize more affordable and progressively basic silicon, as opposed to metal hydrides. Utilizing these more affordable materials could make strong state hydrogen stockpiling accessible to each monetary market, he says. Strong state hydrogen stockpiling gives an a lot more prominent volumetric limit than vaporous or fluid H2. Source: Brookhaven National Labaratory Be that as it may, the long-run impacts could even be more noteworthy, he says. Silicon is practically omnipresent, utilized in assembling PC chips and sunlight based boards. The juvenile innovation would permit property holders or organizations to produce their own hydrogen utilizing housetop sun based boards to part water. Putting away it as hydrogen in silicon, a home could hypothetically be filled for the time being or over various days. With sun based boards and water, you could have all the utility requirements for a lifetime, says Schubert. What's more, on a cost bend of under $8 per kwh, it could clobber batteries and totally disturb vitality gracefully. That is a fantastic arrangement, however Schubert thinks its future isnt that distant if the following exploration steps are fruitful. The main stage is playing out the primary vaporous energize of a strong state hydrogen stockpiling media, to make legitimate the hypothetical work that prompted the NSF award. That incorporates working with polycrystalline silicon and metallurgical evaluation silicon, something not yet endeavored. That would be trailed by development of a one-tenth scale radio-controlled vehicle fitted with a power device and hydrogen stockpiling media. Different specialists are taking a gander at hydrogen stockpiling somewhat better. A Florida State University teacher is planning new materials to store hydrogen all the more productively. In an article distributed in the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Jose L. Mendoza-Cortes utilized PC recreations and numerical conditions to portray permeable materials of progress metals that cause hydrogen to cling to it. Made of earth inexhaustible materials, for example, cobalt, iron or nickel, the materials could be put or fabricated inside a fuel tank. Since the hydrogen atoms cling to the material, more hydrogen could be fitted in and dense into a tank. Further, in light of the fact that hydrogen bonds to the material, the tank never truly would arrive at the vacant level, guarantees the associate educator of concoction building. More hydrogen can be put away at lower weight and room temperatures, making a portion of these materials useful for viable use, he says. Hydrogen can be made into a fluid at 1 bar and 20 degrees Kelvin, or short 423 degrees Fahrenheit, and put away at 71 grams for every liter. At 700 bar and 298 degrees Kelvin, 76.7 degrees Fahrenheit, it is put away at 37 grams for each liter. Mendoza-Cortes materials guarantee hydrogen stockpiling at under 200 bar at room temperature. Current compacted hydrogen frameworks require huge offices to pressurize the gas to 10,000 lb for each square inch. Fuel tanks must be very solid to deal with the weight, notes Schubert. His framework working at 8 bar considers utilizing an a lot lighter tank. Schubert says his genuine energy is space-based sun based force, placing sun based boards in space where they would create power ceaselessly, transferring the ability to earth. He really thought of utilizing silcon as a medium when composing a novel about hydrogen and the space program. It was a plot gadget, he says. I thoughtSiliconand it is pourous. Nobody had proposed anything like that previously. Schubert was working in the private division at that point, and took a shot at the thought with the endorsement of his manager. The hypothetical work demonstrated productive, and he was granted the licenses for the framework, which presently have a place with IUPU. In the event that the following stage is effective, he figures a working business framework might be five or six years away. Combined with another arrangement to create hydrogen from biomass on a nearby scale, he thinks hydrogen-fueled vehicles could give electric-controlled contenders a decent run for their cash. Get familiar with the most recent vitality advancements atASMEs Power and Energy. For Further Discussion With sun powered boards and water, you could have all the utility requirements for a lifetime. Furthermore, on a cost bend of under $8 per kwh, it could clobber batteries and totally upset vitality gracefully. Dwindle Schubert, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis

What You Absolutely Need to Know About Applicant/Keyword Tracking Systems - Pathfinder Careers What You Absolutely Need to Know About Applicant/Keyword Tracking Systems As a list of references author, I experience individuals from varying backgrounds in for all intents and purposes all degrees of work from section level to CEO. It's persistently astounding to me to perceive what number of individuals aren't fixed on what's happening as far as the human asset side of the employing procedure. Furthermore, what you don't know can really hurt you! Numerous organizations have turned to candidate following frameworks (ATS) which is an effectiveness measure set up to empower the HR chief or employing executive to isolate qualified candidates from those that are most certainly not. Indeed: the first round of the screening procedure isn't tied in with finding the 'great' applicants… … It's everything about getting rid of the poor up-and-comers, and individuals who downright don't qualify! Candidate following frameworks may be seen as underhanded by a few, particularly when you find out about the circumstance where one of my customers went through around 5 hours cautiously contributing her list of qualifications into an online application structure. Truly, you read that right, FIVE (5) hours. In her circumstance, there were various supplemental inquiries that were posed to online just as the genuine work history part of her list of references. Think about to what extent it took her to get advised that she was dismissed for the position? (Which she was a lot of equipped for, coincidentally.) Six seconds. That's right. It's hard to believe, but it's true, avid supporters. She got a kick-back message from the ATS saying, We're grieved, yet you didn't meet the base capabilities. Discussion about 'no reasonable!' In any case, when she went to having an expert essayist produce her list of qualifications, I could obviously observe what the imaginable reason was of her concern. Her list of qualifications really had no catchphrases in it. There was no unmistakable 'thickness' to her vocation field, which would imply that the ATS most likely checked it zippity snappy, concocted nothing, and hurled her application rapidly aside. Understanding what the business needs and what the ATS is searching for is a large portion of the skirmish of delivering a successful list of references. Here are four hints to assist you with bettering explore the framework to get your list of qualifications in the heap to be screened by a genuine, live person: 1) Focus/topic your list of qualifications. Attempt to focus your list of qualifications towards a specific activity title. Having a subject will assist you with concentrating and develop a minimum amount of watchwords that are likely filtering focuses on that an ATS is scanning for in your archive. Got a mess of employments that have some regular topic of transferrable ranges of abilities? Amazing. Concentrate them. 2) Do your schoolwork. So as to locate the correct watchwords, you'll have to look past simply the position that is at present open at one specific organization. Some sets of expectations are exhaustive while others are definitely not. Look into comparable positions, and distinguish the example of catchphrases that are normal, and those will be your main ones to use in your list of references under an area called Vocation Expertise. 3) Sprinkle catchphrases all through your list of references. Utilizing the words in portraying your work under each occupation record will likewise earn more 'hits' on the ATS. 4) Be straightforward. Don't simply begin spreading words around harum scarum just to get more hits. A few people have shrewdly begun putting catchphrases at the highest point of their list of qualifications… in white text style so they stay escaped the natural eye, yet the developer who set up the ATS is as of now out in front of you… at times, these shrouded watchword groups can consequently preclude a candidate on the grounds that the product got this misleading demonstration of attempting to get a higher positioning. Seeing how ATS work and what to do to address the business' needs are definitely what you have to do to graduate to the following degree of the screening procedure and truly sparkle!

How To Write A Resume After Being An Entrepreneur (+ Example)

How To Write A Resume After Being An Entrepreneur (+ Example) If you’ve owned your own business and now find yourself returning to the workforce, there are certain things you need to do to maximize your odds of landing a great job. Of course, creating a great resume is at or near the top of that list. Unfortunately, many entrepreneurs are uncertain about how to include their entrepreneurial skills within their resume. Sure, you’ve undoubtedly developed and used skills as a business owner that would provide great benefits in any company setting. But how do you convey those skills to an employer without scaring them away? We have the five steps you need to write a good resume after being a business owner or entrepreneur, followed by an example of an ATS-compliant resume. 5 tips on writing a resume after being an entrepreneur   1. Focus on your (selective) achievements A  business owner resume can be tricky, but you can create a truly stellar document by focusing on the things that matter. De-emphasize your role as a founder and owner of your own company and fill your resume with experiences and achievements. After all, hiring managers are less interested in where you’ve come from than in what you did while you were there. Learn as much as you can about the company you want to work for and identify its most pressing concerns. You can then use your resume to describe achievements that addressed similar problems. For example, is the company having problems with decreased sales? Is it experiencing an unusually high level of turnover? Or is it perhaps confronted with a company culture that is creating a negative atmosphere for employees? If you had success growing sales at your own company, or proven expertise in team-building, you can highlight examples of those achievements in your business owner resume. The goal is for the employers to recognize that you’re the solution to whatever problems their company is trying to solve. 2. Showcase the valuable lessons learned as a business owner You can also use your business owner resume to demonstrate your ability to learn and adapt to new situations and challenges. Describe specific problems that you encountered, how you resolved them, and how that impacted your future strategies. While companies are focused on ensuring that employees can follow directions, they also want innovators and people with leadership skills. They need to know that you’re a problem-solver and someone who learns from every experience. 3. Describe your achievements using quantifiable numbers When you’re describing accomplishments, use hard numbers to demonstrate real value. You want to paint a picture in the reader’s mind, so the hiring managers can easily imagine you adding that sort of value to their company if they hire you. For example: Designed and executed customer acquisition strategy that increased daily customers by 20%Implemented sales strategy that increased monthly sales by $100,000Launched customer appreciation bonus plan that increased client retention by 80% in six months  4. Emphasize teamwork Your ability to work as part of a team is critical to any company that may want to hire you. Your business owner resume must emphasize teamwork if you want to be seriously considered for any position. You can do that by discussing projects and strategies in your own company that saw you work with others to achieve common goals. Those efforts may have been in collaboration with clients or your own employees. The important thing is that you convey to the hiring manager that you are a real team player. 5. Highlight how you progressed over time Obviously, your company didn’t just magically achieve success overnight â€" if at all. Chances are that you started with limited success and small sales or projects and progressed to larger deals as time went on. As that happened, your own responsibilities and roles almost certainly grew as well. Your business owner resume should include challenges that you encountered at different stages of your growth. Describe the actions that you took to address those challenges, and the results that those actions achieved. This will showcase your ability to take on more responsibility and greater challenges in any job role. Bonus: don’t forget to cover the basics Those five tips can help you focus on the right elements while you create your business owner resume. At the same time, however, it’s important that you cover all the basic elements as well. Make sure that your resume is ATS-compliant, using the right keywords to ensure that it gets past the automated screeners. Choose a standard resume format, with traditional fonts and formatting, and stay away from flashy graphics. Don’t forget to include a powerful summary statement at the beginning of the document, to capture the hiring manager’s attention right away. ATS-compliant entrepreneur resume example Summary The good news is that you can land a great job if you take the time to create a great resume as an entrepreneur or former business owner. By focusing on your skills and achievements, deemphasizing your role as a company owner, and stressing your desire to work with a team once again, you can land more interviews and make the right impression on hiring managers. Uber and Lyft Drivers Set to Strike Ahead of IPO. Heres Why

Uber and Lyft Drivers Set to Strike Ahead of IPO. Here's Why Drivers for Uber and Lyft plan to strike in various major U.S. urban areas this week to request better wages and working conditions in front of Uber's exceptionally foreseen first sale of stock. The work stoppages and rallies will occur in urban communities from Los Angeles to Boston, just as areas in the United Kingdom, as Uber looks for a normal $91 billion valuation this week. The fights â€" which change in size and degree, contingent upon their area â€" center around a similar objective: better wages, better advantages, a voice in arrangement choices, and fundamental working environment assurances for drivers, who are regarded self employed entities instead of representatives under both Uber's and Lyft's plans of action. Drivers in Los Angeles, San Diego, and Boston will arrange 24-hour long strikes from their ride-sharing applications, those in Atlanta and San Francisco will strike for 12 hours, and New York City-based drivers will strike for two hours during morning heavy traffic. Gatherings of drivers in Chicago, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., among different urban communities, will hold rallies in solidarity with drivers around the nation. That's the last straw, says Felipe Martinez, a Uber driver situated in Boston who is arranging endeavors there. It's on the backs of the drivers that this organization has developed, and we should be heard. In its S-1 documenting a month ago, Uber said there will be more disappointment among its drivers as the organization debilitates driver motivating forces to improve its money related execution. Drivers have likewise mourned various compensation diminishes as of late â€" including a drop from $0.80 to $0.60 per mile in Southern California this year â€" which, drivers state, has pushed some to work longer hours and swear off fundamental vehicle installments and fixes. Uber has offered some transient solutions for long-lasting drivers with one-time money prizes on the application a month ago, adding up to more than $300 million to more than 1.1 million drivers, just as holding various offers for drivers who have finished in excess of 2,500 excursions. Drivers at last concern Uber's IPO will intensify these issues. Money Street speculators are advising Uber and Lyft to trim down on driver salary, stop motivators, and go quicker to Driverless Cars, Bhairavi Desai, the official executive of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance said in an announcement. With the IPO, Uber's corporate proprietors are set to make billions, all while drivers are left in neediness and fail. Sen. Bernie Sanders, a 2020 Democratic presidential up-and-comer, tweeted that he has indistinguishable worries from drivers and has vowed to remain with drivers. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, another 2020 Democratic presidential applicant, additionally has communicated support for drivers protesting previously. How travelers can be affected Drivers and dissident are additionally contending that low wages and hardly any advantages will affect travelers, as well. In the event that I need to work six days every week on 12-hour shifts, I'm substantially less ready to convey as protected and inviting of an excursion as I would be in the event that I could work 40 hours or even 45 and take care of my tabs, says Angela Vogel, a Uber driver who is sorting out a meeting in Philadelphia. On the off chance that we can't manage the cost of good human services, we may have a driver that is driving with a sickness. These things make travelers less protected, she includes. It's a concern for drivers around the nation, who portrayed the effect of working longer hours â€" regardless of whether through their ride-sharing employments or through getting occupations somewhere else to more readily get by. Bearing fundamental fixes for their vehicles is additionally a concern, drivers state. My apparatus of my exchange is my vehicle. In the event that we continue getting our compensation cut and brought down, we're bargaining traveler security with the upkeep of a portion of these vehicles, says Martinez, the Boston-based driver. We can't put tires on it when we have to put tires on it; we can't get oil changes or the fixes for wellbeing. This is bargaining the drivers as well as the travelers' security.

5 Most Popular Twitter Directories That Will Grow Your Personal Brand

5 Most Popular Twitter Directories That Will Grow Your Personal Brand 372 Like the classic phone book, being listed in the most popular directories is a surefire way to be found more on Twitter. Directory listing tips Popular directories became popular because they are generally easy to use, and specifically so for listing yourself. Take advantage of all the options to give yourself exposure is as many relevant categories as possible. When a directory limits the number of categories (or tags) where you can list yourself (such as 5 for WeFollow, 10 for Twellow), browse all the categories that are relevant to your personal brand and then choose the best trade-off among the categories that you ‘must’ be in and the categories where you can rank highly e.g. on the first page of listings for that category. Download The Ultimate Twitter Job Search Guide User directories WeFollow â€" to add yourself, click here.eval Then, enter your city and choose your 5 ‘interests’ which will determine in which categories you appear in WeFollow (elsewhere on the site, they’re called tags). One annoyance- be careful of the fine print at the bottom of the page, in particular where WeFollow ‘offers’ to have your Twitter profile page link to your WeFollow profile page. Otherwise, I like WeFollow for the simple reason that it works- it has definitely brought some people to me and vice-versa.eval Twellow â€" Click the ‘Register for FREE’ link in the upper right-hand side of the homepage to begin. Annoyingly, Twellow then requires giving your Twitter username and password (even though other sites only require that you be logged in to your Twitter account). Once you do that â€" which you should, because it’s worth the risk â€" you’ll also give your email address and sign up. Twellow will analyze your Twitter profile page and pull in as much information as possible to create your Twellow profile page and make suggestions for which categories you should be in. Important: You’ll need to validate those suggestions and/or add other categories before you actually appear in the directory’s listings. While WeFollow’s profile pages are very simple and attract new followers solely based on your public Twitter statistics such as follower count, Twellow’s profile pages are much useful, with the options to add links to your other social media profiles and letting you include an ‘extended bio’, handy for giving visitors more reasons to follow you. Just Tweet It â€" this 3rd Twitter directory is the most complicated to join. Register here by giving a username and email address, to which you’ll be sent a password and a link to a Profile editor page (WordPress bloggers will recognize it) where you can fill in some more personal information and choose a new password if you like. Once that’s done, head on back to the homepage to add yourself to a category from the dropdown menu at the top. For each category, you need to enter a short bio (and it doesn’t need to be the same text each category, important for the multi-niche personal brand), then click ‘send’. You can add yourself to a maximum of 5 categories. List directories While WeFollow, Twellow and Just Tweet It are directories of Twitter users, the following are directories of Twitter Lists. There are 2 ways to get into List directories- either by getting your Lists added (by you or someone else) and/or by being on Lists that were added. Listorious â€" add a List to the directory by clicking Add List. Listorious will then connect to your Twitter account, using it to generate a simple profile page for you like this, and display a form asking for a List’s url, one-line description and descriptive tags. A nice touch is the check to see if the List actually exists when you submit it, catching any typos. Once your List is added, a dedicated List page is created, and the List automatically enters Listorious’s rankings, which are calculated by number of followers. TweetDeck Directory â€" this directory was relaunched in December 2009 to focus on Twitter Lists. To make an entry, “just create your List and once it starts getting followers, it will be discovered automagically and included in the directory”. Perhaps, but using TweetDeck’s search I couldn’t find any of my Lists in the directory, and I suspect the reason is that I created them directly on Twitter.com. In other words, it seems that the TweetDeck Directory only discovers Twitter Lists that were created or updated using TweetDeck. Category rankings, such as Jobs Careers, are by List follower count. Bonus Geofollow â€" calling itself the ‘Location Based Twitter Directory’, Geofollow’s main draw is just that: instead of being organized by category, listed users are organized by location. Don’t worry- you can still use up to 3 tags to differentiate yourself among the locals or be found by your personal brand.
