5 Most Popular Twitter Directories That Will Grow Your Personal Brand

5 Most Popular Twitter Directories That Will Grow Your Personal Brand 372 Like the classic phone book, being listed in the most popular directories is a surefire way to be found more on Twitter. Directory listing tips Popular directories became popular because they are generally easy to use, and specifically so for listing yourself. Take advantage of all the options to give yourself exposure is as many relevant categories as possible. When a directory limits the number of categories (or tags) where you can list yourself (such as 5 for WeFollow, 10 for Twellow), browse all the categories that are relevant to your personal brand and then choose the best trade-off among the categories that you ‘must’ be in and the categories where you can rank highly e.g. on the first page of listings for that category. Download The Ultimate Twitter Job Search Guide User directories WeFollow â€" to add yourself, click here.eval Then, enter your city and choose your 5 ‘interests’ which will determine in which categories you appear in WeFollow (elsewhere on the site, they’re called tags). One annoyance- be careful of the fine print at the bottom of the page, in particular where WeFollow ‘offers’ to have your Twitter profile page link to your WeFollow profile page. Otherwise, I like WeFollow for the simple reason that it works- it has definitely brought some people to me and vice-versa.eval Twellow â€" Click the ‘Register for FREE’ link in the upper right-hand side of the homepage to begin. Annoyingly, Twellow then requires giving your Twitter username and password (even though other sites only require that you be logged in to your Twitter account). Once you do that â€" which you should, because it’s worth the risk â€" you’ll also give your email address and sign up. Twellow will analyze your Twitter profile page and pull in as much information as possible to create your Twellow profile page and make suggestions for which categories you should be in. Important: You’ll need to validate those suggestions and/or add other categories before you actually appear in the directory’s listings. While WeFollow’s profile pages are very simple and attract new followers solely based on your public Twitter statistics such as follower count, Twellow’s profile pages are much useful, with the options to add links to your other social media profiles and letting you include an ‘extended bio’, handy for giving visitors more reasons to follow you. Just Tweet It â€" this 3rd Twitter directory is the most complicated to join. Register here by giving a username and email address, to which you’ll be sent a password and a link to a Profile editor page (WordPress bloggers will recognize it) where you can fill in some more personal information and choose a new password if you like. Once that’s done, head on back to the homepage to add yourself to a category from the dropdown menu at the top. For each category, you need to enter a short bio (and it doesn’t need to be the same text each category, important for the multi-niche personal brand), then click ‘send’. You can add yourself to a maximum of 5 categories. List directories While WeFollow, Twellow and Just Tweet It are directories of Twitter users, the following are directories of Twitter Lists. There are 2 ways to get into List directories- either by getting your Lists added (by you or someone else) and/or by being on Lists that were added. Listorious â€" add a List to the directory by clicking Add List. Listorious will then connect to your Twitter account, using it to generate a simple profile page for you like this, and display a form asking for a List’s url, one-line description and descriptive tags. A nice touch is the check to see if the List actually exists when you submit it, catching any typos. Once your List is added, a dedicated List page is created, and the List automatically enters Listorious’s rankings, which are calculated by number of followers. TweetDeck Directory â€" this directory was relaunched in December 2009 to focus on Twitter Lists. To make an entry, “just create your List and once it starts getting followers, it will be discovered automagically and included in the directory”. Perhaps, but using TweetDeck’s search I couldn’t find any of my Lists in the directory, and I suspect the reason is that I created them directly on Twitter.com. In other words, it seems that the TweetDeck Directory only discovers Twitter Lists that were created or updated using TweetDeck. Category rankings, such as Jobs Careers, are by List follower count. Bonus Geofollow â€" calling itself the ‘Location Based Twitter Directory’, Geofollow’s main draw is just that: instead of being organized by category, listed users are organized by location. Don’t worry- you can still use up to 3 tags to differentiate yourself among the locals or be found by your personal brand. Seven Social Media Tips You Cannot Afford To Ignore - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Seven Social Media Tips You Cannot Afford To Ignore - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career If you have been using social media for more than a couple months, youve seen professionals who could use an etiquette refresher course. Interestingly enough, many of the offenders you have observed are extremely professional and kind in the “real world.” What accounts for the discrepancy between their in-person and online personas? They don’t understand that the rules of engagement online are exactly the same as those in person. Seven Social Media Etiquette Tips Have a visible profile photo. I know what you’re thinkingâ€" “I have a private profile, I don’t want everyone to be able to find me!” The problem with that thinking is that private profiles make using social media for business much less effective in general. Would you let someone knocking at your door wearing a ski mask into your home? Exactly! No one wants a friend request from a faceless person either. Make relationships versus focusing on sales. No one wants to be friends with a billboard. Build your online reputation as an expert and influencer in your field. Focus on being helpful first and then make sure that your profiles are clear and concise. This way, when connections impressed with your information review your profile, they’ll have a clear understanding of your area of expertise or offerings, and may contact you with opportunities or business needs. Send customized notes with connection requests. Do you like robocalls? How often are you appreciative of receiving tthem? Standard connection request messages are robocalls for social media. Don’t. Do. It. Talk about others and give resources more than you mention yourself. One of the best ways to build a following on social media is to demonstrate your expertise by sharing resources outside of those you offer. Tagging those organizations/people mentioned in   your posts are a great way to build partnerships and get others talking about you too! Acknowledge positive mentions with comments, not just likes. If someone takes the time to create a 200 word post gushing about you online, you can certainly take ten seconds to comment, “Thank you so much for your kind words! I appreciate you.” Could you imagine offering someone an amazing introduction to a room full of your friends and the ingrate simply offers an upward nod to acknowledge your words? Likes are basically nods. They mean that someone agrees or has simply read something. Neither encourages future long posts of praise. On Facebook, keep your timeline open to comments/posts. Imagine being invited into a friends home and then being politely informed that you, nor any of the other guests, may introduce a topic of discussion. You may only comment on those topics introduced by the host. Closing a timeline to posts is the exact same thing. Don’t sit on the sidelines waiting for an opportunity to pitch yourself or your business. It’s no secret that the majority of social media users are lurkers and that’s fine. However, it’s always interesting to see those social media connections who never engage in conversation until they observe   an opportunity to plug their business or themselves. In fact, sometimes they don’t even wait until

Cellulite is Here to Stay.

Cellulite is Here to Stay. By, Ashley Crimaldi A few days ago I decided to deter my morning schedule and catch up on a little Oprah. Typically, Im a non-believer in shows like Oprah. I tend to approach them with a highly cynical and skeptical attitude. These shows are just for bored housewives, right? Somehow this episode caught my attention. It featured Dr. Oz speaking about inner/outer beauty, and tips on how to better care for your self. Being the beauty junky I am, I soon found myself scribbling notes on a scrap piece of paper- what to look for in a face moisturizer, why exfoliating is so important, what to eat to keep from aging. . . and the list goes on. Then they got to the part about cellulite- pen in hand, I was ready to get some notes on THIS section! Ready, Set . . . NO CURE!? What? No cure? Seriously, Dr. Oz you have to be kidding right? If there is no cure, then why does every brand of lotion come in a firming variety these days, and why are there tons of anti-cellulite creams on the market? Dr. Oz goes on to tell us that even liposuction wouldnt cure cellulite. So what do we do? He says, accept it and move on. Ok, duh Dr. Oz thanks for the life changing advice, thats what Ive been doing MY ENTIRE LIFE. Like most women, Ive had stretch marks for years, loads of cellulite on my ass and I have no doubt that Ill develop under eye bags with age. While I thought Dr. Oz was a magical beauty wizard that was going to behold all the anti-aging secrets, he simply re- affirmed everything I already knew: Having the perfect thighs doesnt define success, happiness or being a sexy woman at all. There I was so consumed by the show, and devastated by all my anti-aging short comings (ok lets be honest, I dont work out enough or eat nearly enough blueberries) that I was ready to run to CVS and purchase some serious anti-aging skin care products. Then I realized how ridiculous I was acting- Im 21 years old, why am I already obsessing over anti-aging secrets, watching this consumer driven garbage instead of being on time for work? But yes ladies, we should take care of ourselves. We should eat as healthy as possible and work out when we have time but above all else, we should focus on our own personal happiness. Would having less cellulite really make us feel more fulfilled? Or is that just what were told by our capitalist society? What if we lived in a society where cellulite was sign of good health? Sounds crazy right? But believe me- Im not that far off. The truth is, 90% of the time, I feel really confident about my appearance and my size. Its only when Im told these things are important that I start to doubt myself. So surround yourself with some self-confident women! Give a female co-worker a compliment on her personality, and slather on some cheap non-firming body lotion on today, because anything else is just not worth it!

How to save money when doing a work experience placement

How to save money when doing a work experience placement Its an unfair fact of life that in this life, youll most likely be expected to complete some form of unpaid work experience. It shouldnt happen, but it does, and until we see a  substantial change in the job market, were probably just going to have to grin and bear it. When it comes to doing unpaid work, always know your rights and dont get taken advantage of. Although unpaid placements are legal, you should probably draw the line at doing unpaid work for more than two weeks after that you should ask them to pay you for your services. Weve got loads more advice on unpaid placements and whether theyre damaging here. But if you do end up completing an unpaid placement, the costs can soon rack up if youre not careful, so its important to budget and have a hunt around for some sneaky cost-cutting measures if possible. Here are some of our best tips: Expenses First things first, even if the placement is unpaid, the company might cover expenses for you, although they might not necessarily advertise it. So dont be afraid to ask what their policy is. Just remember that expenses means different things to different people. For example, if youre travelling across the country for a work experience placement, the cost of travel and accommodation alone could rack up well over £100, which the employer might consider too much. They might just think of expenses as the £3 a day you spend on lunch. So be warned that even if they do cover expenses, that might not necessarily mean theyll cover everything you actually spend. Theyll normally specify expenses up to a certain amount. One final top tip: it might be worth waiting until the end of your placement to ask about expenses. If youve worked really hard and made a good impression, then they might be more likely to boost up how much they give you (Im saying this from previous experience believe me, it works). If you ask on the first day when youre still a relative stranger, theyll be unlikely to do the same. Accommodation Getting a work experience placement that you can easily commute to from home is the dream, but isnt always possible for many people. The most obvious way of saving money on accommodation is finding a generous friend or family member willing to let you sleep on their sofa for a week or so. But again, if you dont have any connections in the area this isnt always possible, so youre going to have to bite the bullet with paid accommodation. Here are our tips for cheap living in the city: University halls of residence Many are used as hotels over the summer, Christmas and Easter periods when students are away and are often a lot cheaper than the local Travelodge. Plus you often get your own kitchen facilities so you can make dinner at night. Airbnb As the service rises in popularity, prices are starting to rise too, but its still usually a lot cheaper than a hotel. Hostels Often not ideal if you dont want to be kept awake by noisy strangers all night, but a bed in a dorm comes pretty cheap. Spareroom.com Not just for long-term lets, some people sub-let their rooms if theyre going on long holidays, and you can often find some steals on here. Be careful and obviously dont force yourself to stay somewhere you dont feel safe just to save some cash, but know there are options out there other than the obvious hotel. Transport If you dont have one already, invest in a 16-25 rail card ASAP. Its only £30 for the year (Or £70 for three years), and it will honestly save your life. Train tickets in this country are no picnic, and you can be faced with a £90 fare just to get from London to Manchester. A rail card saves you a third off the total price which can go a long way. Dont forget you can also split your fare. This is a really handy service which lets you know whether it would be cheaper to buy two separate train tickets rather than just the one. So for example, a ticket from London to Milton Keynes, and then Milton Keynes to Manchester. You wont have to get off the train (although you might have to switch seats), but you could save up to half the price. And if youre still struggling with the train fare, youve always got the good old Megabus as a back-up. It might take what feels like 10 years to get anywhere, but the tickets are super cheap, and you can sometimes get literally from one end of the country to the other for less than a tenner. Dont knock it. If youre commuting across a city, see if you can save money on the daily bus fare by cycling or walking instead even if it does mean getting up a bit earlier. Food Adjusting to working life can be tough, but dont fall into the trap of popping to the local Starbucks to grab a coffee and sandwich on your lunch break everyday. It might only be a fiver at the time, but that could be an extra fifty quid to add to the top of a rapidly increasing work experience bill, so try and take your own lunch in. Make some salads/sandwiches at home, or add an extra portion when cooking your dinner and save that for work the next day. Either way, that avocado and quinoa boost box is not worth the price tag. My main piece of advice always think long and hard about whether a work experience placement is worth the money youre spending on it. Will it genuinely help you secure a paid role or graduate position? Keep that in mind, spend accordingly and always know your worth. Connect with Debut on  Facebook,  Twitter,  and  LinkedIn  for more careers insights.

Managing Self-Doubt During a Difficult Job Search - Wolfgang Career Coaching

Managing Self-Doubt During a Difficult Job Search - Wolfgang Career Coaching Searching for a job can be difficult.  We know there are external obstacles like a reduction in hiring in our industry, our age, our lack of experience, etc.  However, the toughest obstacles can sometimes be ourselves, particularly our self-doubt. I see many individuals in the midst of a job search who doubt their abilities.  This might be due to a recent layoff, the high expectations you have set for yourself, or a series of rejections in your job search. We can begin to take rejection personally and turn it into a reflection of ourselves.  Job searching can be very difficult and, at times, result in developing thick skin. This is easier said than done, but we have to attack the self-doubt that creeps into our minds during this time.  Self-doubt can be our own worst enemy. How to Counteract Self-Doubt During a Difficult Job Search This is a time for you to review your past successes and solicit other people’s opinions.  Start with at least one of the ideas below and monitor how it helps your self-doubt. Write down the doubts you have about yourself on a piece of paper.  Next, think of a time when you were challenged with a task or project, doubted your ability to conquer it, but managed to pull it off.  Now think of multiple examples of when you are able to do this.  Next to or underneath each doubt write down experiences from your past that counteract that thought. For example: “Clearly, since I am not getting any freelance work I am not a very good writer.”  Underneath this doubt, write down your accomplishments in the writing field.  It’s tough for our minds to counteract the feelings of doubt, but writing down our accomplishments will help our minds acknowledge the good work we have done. Read old performance reviews to see what positive things your bosses and peers said about you.  If you are the type of individual who always jumped to the “constructive feedback” and “areas for improvement” first, then spend extra time looking at all of the positive feedback you received for past work completed. Talk to a friend or former co-worker about your past contributions.  Oftentimes, they see us more objectively than we see ourselves.  We can set very high expectations for ourselves but our friends and co-workers usually have more realistic view points. A conversation with them might be all you need to remember what an amazing person you are and what great work you have done in the past. Many of us will experience times where we doubt ourselves and doubt our abilities.  When these times occur, it is good to challenge those feelings with objective and factual information about our past accomplishments. It can be a very telling exercise and remind you of all the outstanding contributions you have made in the past.

Tough (Question) Tuesday What arent you being nice to yourself about, how you gonna start

Tough (Question) Tuesday What arent you being nice to yourself about, how you gonna start Be Nice To Yourself by laurageorge What with the bath I finally allowed myself last week, I realized that the person thats meanest to myself   is me. Not counting some Mean Girls at work. They suck big time. If I was as mean as them Id have no friends. But Im not counting them because they are so not my friends. OK, lets rephrase: out of all of my friends, Im the meanest to myself. So not cool of me. Do you feel the same? Like youre your own worst enemy? Like if someone said to you what you think to yourself, youd classify them as a mentally ill asshole, but since you say it to yourself its not only OK but valid? Well, lets take that Mentally Ill Asshole Vampire that lives in your head (is it comforting to know that we all have one in our own heads?) kick him in the shins. What arent you being nice to yourself about, how you gonna start? You know how this works by now. Meet you in the comments section!
